Surprisingly, actually very good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ They certainly left S1 open ended to allow for another season but sadly it never materialised and its been nearly 10 years since creation so doesn't look likely. I would recommend this to Japanophile gaijin for sure.

20th Century Boys 3: Redemption

Finally watched all 3 films back to back in 2026, 17 years after release. The thing is, I read the manga 20+ years ago, which was extremely impressionable to me as a teen/young adult so I didn't feel the need to watch the adaptation. I found the manga a bit dark and terrifying tbh and that eye/finger symbol forever burnt into my brain so I think I thought the movie would be a creepy psychological horror 17 years ago and chose not to watch it at the time. Fast forward to today, I totally forgot the ending and could only remember the feelings I had when I read it. The movies are totally dumbed down and easy to watch, and I laughed at the endless use of cameos of Japanese celebrities (comedians and talents) of 2009, some who have disappeared from TV after their own "me too" like incidents. I didn't remember this ending at all though... Did it change? It wasn't satisfying. How did Tomodachi come back from the dead anyway? I really liked the guy who plays Ocho. And T-rex music. I think I will re-read the Manga now.

Baban Baban Ban Vampire

My 74 year old mum said she wanted to see this when we were clicking through the Prime JP offering 🤣 She said she liked this actor from "Kokuho" but last year this movie got pulled from all the cinemas across the land because of a stir he caused - the lamest scandal I ever heard - he got drunk, got confused and passed out in his neighbours house, who called the police on him apparently. WTH? Then all was forgiven when he was starring in the award winning national treasure movie. WTF? 🤣 Japanese マスコミ are the fucking worst. And its awful when famous people have to be so publicly shamed and humiliated for the smallest crimes, like the poor female idols that get their heads shaved for having an affair etc and have a press conference to publicly apologise. Awful. And the media act so gleefully. 🤮 Anyway, moving on. This film was random as hell, I had never heard of it or read any of the comics but I might pick one up. Its a BL fever dream. Would like to know what he was up to between age 40 and 400 😂 is he just going to live out the rest of infinity at the bath house with the multiple generations of descendants? He calls the dad "3rd Gen" lol

The Last Viking

I knew it was going to be a quirky Scandic movie but wow this exceeded my expectations on the quirk barometer 🤣 I can't imagine this is everyone's cup of tea, infact I can't think of anyone I would recommend it to, but it was still enjoyable to me with all the revelations and surprises and quite a lot of violence along the way. I'd say Freja had the worst time of it, dad abandonment, being stuck as primary care giver while her other bro is in jail, gets beaten up badly because of him, then finds out her dad was actually murdered by him. I mean she doesn't catch a break!! Poor lady. I hope she was compensated well from the proceeds of the bank robbery. Meanwhile the looney band members all severed their finger to be the same as John. What madness 🤣 Mads is great at playing mad. Nominative determinism 🤣🤣🤣

18x2 Beyond Youthful Days

Watched this on the plane having read a very vague synopsis about an old love with a backpacker and revisiting the love he never forgot... Man I didn't expect to be ugly crying at the end of it even though I had a feeling I knew where this was going when Ami made a comment about not knowing how long someone's life is. 🥺 By the time he reached her village I just knew, then the mum asking "Are you Jimmy?!?" and mentioning Ami has said she needed to get better for her young boyfriend waiting in Taiwan 😭❤️‍🩹 and gifting him with her beautiful painted book. OMG it hurts and tears me up just thinking about it. 😢 Devastating, beautiful and it sits with you for ages. I travelled a lot in my teens and early 20's and lived in Mexico, Brazil, and lots of places in the UK and Japan and studied in Spain etc and I made all these friends from my travels but I never really thought about the last time I saw most of them is the last time I will ever actually see them in this life, realistically. This film makes me think and reassess my life priorities. I'd love to just revisit all these places I lived in and the friends but its not easy, the cost, the responsibilities, the time off.. I'm lucky to have experienced it all in the first place. 🙏

The Mandalorian and Grogu

26/05/26 Watched this at Osaka Station Cinema 4 days after release with 40% capacity with the best, old school, respectful audience. It felt like going to the movies in the 90's before smart phones. As I watched it I could almost hear my Star Wars snob friends whingeing about it being crap and cheesy blah blah blah... BUT I LOVED IT 🤩　Its exactly what you want it to be, pure action, space chases, interesting creatures, Mando kicking ass and Grogu doing his thing and nice to see Zeb and Rotta too. I'm so glad I bothered to go to the cinema and see it on a big screen in Japan instead of waiting on Disney+.
