Creature horror combined with some good elements of a Western.
On this regard, it was entertaining even though it starts off slow and with a weak setup, it's the aesthetic that kept the movie alive until the tasty action packed second half busts in. Apart from that aesthetic change, it was pretty much another mediocre creature horror but also creative in it's own right.
Acting in the film is exaggerated and way off than necessary but the dialogue tho, it wasn't exactly bad or cheesy but average and not much bothering. What's really bothering in the film is actually the physical effects of the creature which is a must for any kind of horror, let alone a creature. They are super obvious, especially the tentacles and the weird color choice for blood didn't help it either.
However, as mentioned, the action is indeed super exciting, especially that one damn good firing scene. That truly satisfies audience's every need. And it's definitely great to see it break tropes and lets every character have their own time to shine. Except for the one trope regarding ethnicity.

Tremors should be considered a national treasure for creature features. It was a low budget movie that was able to pull off a fun story with an awesome looking practical effects creature. Puppetry for the win! I watched the making of this right after and it made me love it even more. Plus.. Kevin Bacon is always great.
