Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist, brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

this would be soooo cool if i was 13 and horny for elordi and hated my dad and didn't really get what frankenstein is about and only really partially knew the plot from Tumblr posts. a character quite literally tells victor "you're the monster". that's it that's the film. the ending ragebaited me in straying from the book in a way that ultimately betrays every theme of the book to a more "audience friendly" daddy issues plotline. jesus christ who gives a fuck.
I'm not huge on del Toro's style but the gore was interesting and fun in an otherwise not very horror loaded movie. the performances were also good.
otherwise, like I said on my review of Mickey 17, I generally hate when book adaptions do the thing of having a lot of narration and dialogue to explain everything rather than showing us - because if you can't use the visual medium to show what it can do that the book can't, then why even bother adapting it? I really can't stand it when a film goes THAT true to the material, and especially not if it's then going to part with it on the most important aspects! bleh. don't wanna think about this movie again .

grotescamente belo
<i>"You may be my creator but from this day forth, I will be your master."</i>
I think this is the first legit Frankenstein movie I've seen. The only other Frankenstein media that comes close to this, that I've seen, is Young Frankenstein and the Phineas and Ferb Halloween special
Attention to detail, these little things go a long way. Cinematography, physics of the men being killed, casting what it was like environmentally during that time; like the blood on the meat street.
Not being cheesy but keeping the story good enough to follow. Blending all together is what makes it work. Yes you can tell what’s coming is some cases as it just springs up obviously.
This is good cinema. Can’t complain as not may things of quality are released today. Good movie after so many Frankenstein movies and shows. This does well enough to leave a good feeling and stand on its own.
