His mum is something.... "he'll always be my baby" but she kicked him out of the house when he was 16 and doesn't visit him in prison anymore. idk I kind of hope that filming this might have encouraged her to go visit him again. I wonder if they have done an appeal based on the fact that the confession he gave about the stabbing was taken without his lawyer, and thus it shouldn't have been included in his murder trial? Taking an "Okay" as a confession is terrible also, to me that feels like him just accepting that everything has already been decided for him and he's just taking the path of least resistance. I think it's not a given that he knew in the moment that shooting that gun was going to kill someone either. I have to wonder if he knew exactly where Myrtle was when he was shooting, and how good his aim is, especially in low light. He hit her on the side of the head, but I think he probably could've just as easily missed her entirely. I find the "is this person a continued danger to society?" question so strange for deciding whether or not someone should get the death penalty. Like, even when the answer is yes, why do they need to die? Why can't they just have life in prison? I think I would hate to be on one of those juries, like the defence lawyer said, those questions are so black and white, but when you're deciding if someone lives or dies there has got to be more room for nuance!! (Well, I don't believe anyone should be deciding if someone lives or dies at all but....)
