gross, i love it. making agnes so unlikeable in the beginning was a good choice. not sure if the choice to make both her and the prince swedish is the best though, because even though having our protagonist and her family be humbly poor norwegians in contrast, it shows what, our inferiority complex? the looksmaxxing in an effort to look like an effortless swedish princess saying something about how we feel as nation next to them? i might be reading too much into it, but thea sofie opening her mouth to suddenly speak swedish took me off guard, and i have to believe that means something. regardless, i found the performances pretty okay and the gore pretty good, amazing by norwegian standards, and the corpse, 🪱 and sex shots were great. wish i'd liked the plot more and that the dialogue would've been better. <b>part of:</b> <i><a href="https://boxd.it/2VQVG">top 250 horror </a> norwegian film canon 1959-now oscar nominee best makeup and hairstyling <a href="https://boxd.it/Cud9o">2025 releases</a> </i>

😱😱😱 This film.... To me it's the scariest horror ever. I can watch any X rated gore, bloodbath, psychological, philia nightmare but to me anything involving eyes leaves me in histerics! I was squirming, screaming, sweating and covering my eyes with a cushion in that eyelash operation... I have never reacted that much to a movie before!!! (A Clockwork Orange eye scene was a close second. Then Final Destination 5 eye scene third.) This movie had me completely captivated from the start. It's so dark and strangely beautiful in the most grotesque way. The characters are complicated and awful (except for Alma obviously). The Cinderella story has been retold so many times in cinema but this is absolutely my favourite version. The tapeworm coming out was unreal...! But I was thinking about that House episode when the patient was infected by tapeworm and her whole body, brain, muscles were infected and it lit up the x-ray. Surely Elvira's brain was a bit infected too to get to that extreme level. The post credit corpse scene of the dad.. OMG so dark 💀💀💀💀😱 That house must have stunk, how could they live there with the body just rotting out in the open?! What a fucking mental retelling. If I had a daughter I think I would show her this version instead of Disney 😂. Elvira was never ugly in the first place though but the extreme lengths she went through to change her appearance.. for nothing 😱 I think I'll be thinking about this movie for a while. I'm due to do drastic procedure next month but I'm having second thoughts, feel like this film entered my life for a reason...
