according to schraffillas' review of this on youtube, this was supposed to be a tv show but got cancelled and made into a movie. if that's true, it makes a lot of sense. it has the same feel as the straight-to-dvd sequels we got as kids in the 90/00s, which is fiiiiine and okaaaay and retvrn to tradition or whateeever but this is a boxoffice movie and made sooo much money (basically off of just kids, as no adults I know saw this in theatres and very few of my letterboxd mutuals. which is also like, the point of a kids movie, but adults have always love Disney movies, so it does show a dip in quality and hype) so with how much this made Disney, you'd hope it was BETTER. animation is worse than the first movie and the story is okay. it's bland and it's very much a Disney sequel. it feels like a tv show honestly. <i>Wish</i> was a lot better, and I know people haaaated <i>Wish</i>. no songs here are memorable, many of them suck, and they feel like they were added after the fact. it also has a mcu-like villain after-credits show which just kinda made me exhausted. let it gooooooo. <b>part of:</b> <a href="https://boxd.it/SNrY">all time worldwide box office</a> <a href="https://boxd.it/lHyYg">disney (re)watched</a>

Didn't care for it, none of the songs were memorable. Looked beautiful though. I liked the first one a lot so extra disappointed :(

Great new characters and lots of laughs, but we came to Moana 2 expecting more great songs and were greatly let down.

Boring, boring, boring! A dreadfully dull, and completely unnecessary, follow up to the first film. The charming songs of the original are replaced by nonsensical ballads of nothingness and the endearing relationship between Maui and Moana was squeezed for all it was worth until it broke. Please, watch Transformers One or The Wild Robot instead of this tired rehash of a modern Disney classic.
