How is this one of the highly acclaimed film? I mean it's entertaining alright, but not because it's entertaining or great but because it's extremely bad. It is so bad that it turns out to be fun. I had to check a couple of times if I'm watching the right film or not and still couldn't believe my eyes even after that. I thought Night of the living dead was great. Though it has its flaws, its bold and the horror was super effective and great for the time being. I especially loved how it metaphorically portrayed racism on new light. So coming off of that, I've had people saying Dawn of the dead is the best of the bunch so I was very excited to watch it but couldn't get the appeal after watching. The film even starts off that way, all so sudden and chaotic. Has full screened aspect ratio and it doesn't even look cinematic to begin with, let alone the authenticity that is garbage. It just seems like raw footage is used in the final product as is. Dialogue is out of place and doesn't make sense half the time which also only exists whenever the film doesn't bombard us with sounds or music (which I've to agree is interesting sometimes, but felt totally wasted). And there's also some perfectly cool cheerful music for life threatening situations. Editing is surely the main evil, top contributor of the film's quality and easily the worst in all of cinema. Even some of the bad films knew when to cut. This film however literally cuts off conversations or overcuts scenarios for unnecessary reasons because of course you need multiple perspectives with many cuts of a man drinking water. For a zombie film, Practical effects are the most important elements but they're super obvious here and unnecessarily colorful. Worse than any B movie I ever saw. But those scenes of zombie feasting though, as good, effective and unsettling as it was in Night of the living dead. It's so hard to put the quality aside and experience just the horror because it's exceptionally bad but even when I really tried, the clearly unintentional unfinished makeup of the zombies didn't let me. I was interested in the design choice of their look at first as they give the idea of devils or cannibals but that irresponsibility of makeup & costume departments turned me off. How floppy shall a crew be to have it all this messy. Performances are laughstocks. Their body language and the way they calmly move in critical circumstances is so unreal. Not to mention the overly enthusiastic zombie actors, this has a reason but didn't work as anticipated. Sure it's original and brought forth some of entertainment's iconic horror elements of zombies and even clichés and tropes but there's just no way we can overlook the quality. So it's pretty fun, better watch it with friends.

> "Jesus, it's everywhere." You can tell after Night of the Living Dead they wanted to dial it up tenfold for the next one that is what they did with Dawn of the Dead. I like the characers, the premise, the location... just thought it was a bit too long. Need to keep this short! That being said this is definitely a classic and I like how it focuses on the long term survival plan and how you would try to make it.
