i think this killed my love for the franchise ☹️
im a notorious defender and appreciator of the terrifier franchise, but this movie just didn't do it for me. im trying to put my finger on why. it does have more (very explicit) violence towards young children, which I've gotten incredibly sensitive to after becoming a mom, but even putting those scenes aside (which I have no trouble doing) the rest isn't appealing to me either. the gore isn't too much - i'm a fan of new French extremity, and Martyrs is in my top 4, so this level of gore doesn't turn me away. if anything, the chainsaw split with dick and balls all over the screen, and the terrifier christmas song playing, was probably one of the best scenes of the movie. but maybe the gore feels pointless? it was mostly supposed to be funny in the first two films, but this movie takes itself a lot more serious. and the lore is getting... bad, the writing has always been the least reliable thing in this franchise. I also didn't even get that art was in the house towards the final act because siennas visions just weren't very compatible with the movie - how am I supposed to care when the clown is there if she sees him regardless if he is? this was also by far the least terrifying movie of the three. unsure if I will watch the forth one and it BREAKS my heart to say it
