almost gave this 5 stars. fuck it, it's camp. obviously im tired as hell of superhero movies (but still deadset on finishing the boxoffice list), but I wanted to go in with an open mind, and I can say it did grow on me after a while. it's ridiculous but it takes itself seriously, which makes me at least care about the storyline. yes it's cheesy but it's fine. the politics in this is so vague and obvious (everyone is against pollution of the ocean, atleast on paper) so it isn't a hard pill to swallow like Nolan's Batman movies (that I just finished). is it crazy to rate this higher? probably. I mean visually it kind of sucks. Avatar looks a lot better than this, and has sorta the same vibe. There's also just so many intense.. things going on. The red hair and green suit onthe gorgeous Heard, which looks cartoonish as fuck but I dig it, and Mamoa who just is such an intense masculine looking man that it is just, y'know, hilarious. As a couple (spoiler?) they are just so old school hyper-feminine + hyper-masculine visually, it's like a Bond film. Can we btw talk about this cast list? What the fuck? Willem Dafoe is in this, by the way, looking drop dead gorgeous with the slick back black hair God DAMN, and Nicole fucking Kidman, who is the only actor in this that doesn't age in time skips. What is this, an Eggers film? Dame Julie Andrews??? And let's not forget how James Wan casted PATRICK WILSON aaaand AAAAAND had a cameo of fucking LEIGH WHANNEL in this??? the horror kings?? does the cameo make this a<i> Saw</i> movie? I love James Wan, I'm still not sure about him making non-horror movies, but it's fun to have (almost) finished his discography. You pick up on certain quirks that still comes through in his blockbuster actions, like the soundtrack choices, and his particular fight scene directions. But it's still like, what the fuck, why did the creator of <i>Saw, The Conjuring</i> and <i>Insidious</i> make this? It makes no sense. Whatever though, it was entertaining enough. Just praying to God he makes another horror movie soon <b>part of: </b> <a href="https://boxd.it/SNrY"><i>all time worldwide box office </i></a>
