Elementary

Elementary is an underrated Sherlock Holmes adaptation. Jonny Lee Miller plays a very different Holmes than the BBC version but makes the character completely his own. The gender-swap of Watson is handled with real care. The relationship between them evolves in interesting ways. Good procedural with genuine character work.

The Pitt is one of the best new medical dramas in years. The format — each episode is one real-time hour of an ER shift — is genuinely innovative. Noah Wyle brings everything to this role. The ensemble is excellent. This is what ambitious network TV looks like.

Regular Show

Regular Show is one of the best animated comedies of the 2010s. The escalation formula — mundane task becomes increasingly insane cosmic adventure — is executed perfectly episode after episode. Mordecai and Rigby are a great duo. The final season wraps things up with genuine emotional resonance. Underrated.

Mortal Kombat II delivered everything I wanted. The fight sequences are genuinely great and Johnny Cage absolutely steals the movie. The video game energy is turned up to the right level — respectful to fans without being impenetrable for newcomers. Solid blockbuster.

Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy seasons 1-4 are one of the best things cable TV produced. Jax Teller is a compelling antihero and the club's internal politics create genuine drama. Charlie Hunnam committed fully. Katey Sagal is incredible as Gemma — one of TV's great antagonistic matriarchs. The later seasons have real problems but the peak is very high.

Chicago Med

Chicago Med is the most consistently good medical drama on network TV. The moral dilemmas it presents are actually complex and the show doesn't always choose the easy resolution. The ensemble has good chemistry across multiple cast rotations. Solid procedural.
