[7.4/10] Really enjoyed the animation on this one. Everything here had a stretchy quality to it, which gave the likes of ghosts, pigs, cars, and shutters a certain bendy sense of cartoon fun. Porky’s vehicle creeping along the road, or the shutters flexing back and forth all catches the eye. The ghost alone was a lot of fun. His song and antics were enjoyable, and he’s an animator’s delight, being unbound by the even the most pretend laws of physics to be able to float around a haunted house. Little gags like him dipping smoke rings in his coffee and chowing down, or sending himself through a washer made for fun moments. My only big knock to this one is that it doesn’t make for much of a story. It’s basically an excuse for a bunch of gags, which is fine for a short, but they sort of pretended this was going somewhere, and then it didn’t. This one also slows down a bit in the middle. It has to be said, the racist gag at the end is abhorrent. Thankfully, it’s only a few seconds. Unfortunately, you kind of have to stomach such things if you’re going to watch these classic shorts.
