[7.9/10] It’s cool to get a bit of backstory on Treetrunks! Seeing her as a high school mean girl equivalent, a pirate on the high seas, and the equivalent of a caretaker before she became the kindly pie-maker we know and love is interesting. As usual, there’s a little more depth there, suggesting the wide and varied lives that the people in our lives may have led before they reached us. But it works on a pure textual level as well. And the theme is an interesting one. Treetrunks describing herself as a “leaf on the wind” who didn’t know a good adventure from a bad adventure, who now loves her life is affecting. It’s one of those knowing laughs when she tears up a little and reassures Sweetpea that that’s “just something that happens when grown-ups think about their lives for too long.” Getting a little more insight into Treetrunks’s oft-hinted-at wild child past, and why she’s happy with her present, is a pleasant experience. Overall, a fun episode that gives us a neat look into the backstory of a character who’s been with the show forever, with hints of depths beyond the enjoyable surface level adventure stories.
