Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

SVU has now run for longer than some of my postgraduate students have been alive. That it remains watchable is a genuine achievement in television production. Mariska Hargitay has developed Olivia Benson into one of the more fully realized characters in procedural television, someone whose accumulated trauma is legible across every season. The writing is uneven but the performances carry it.
