Really fun film, and Austin Butler is great!
It did feel like this movie took some really uh.. interesting writing turns and kept me on my toes as to what to expect to happen next.
Some characters I wish were around more.
Sometimes a cinematic titan who's been on a losing streak for well over a decade, decides to come back with a knockout to prove that he's still got it and now it's <i>Aronofsky</i>'s turn. Is the film a revolutionary all-timer that will reshape cinema as we know it? No, but that's precisely what makes it good. It's a classic tale: An unassuming yet deeply troubled young man finds himself in the middle of a baffling complot involving savage gangsters who are willing to even hurt a cat to get what they want. Hell, it's even filled with stereotypes; from idiotic Russian criminals whose only tactic is a punch to the gut to hasidic Jew brothers who will spare your life if their grandmother likes you enough. But all of this, with its clichés and tropes, is so meticulously well done that immediately makes <i>Caught Stealing</i> a rare find, a timeless piece, and a must-see.
As for me, when the camera zoomed in on <i>Hank</i> attempting to evade the mobsters by going down the fire escapes—the sunlight accentuating the film's grain and the <i>Idles</i> soundtrack blasting in my ears—I was reminded once again why I fuckin' love cinema.
Go <i>Aronofsky</i> the giant!
× <b>Best Line</b>: The things you've seen and done, it may be that home has no room for you.
Good attempt at old school action movies.
Zoe Kravitz' terrible acting combined with awful dialogues ruined the first 44 minutes, but after that the movie picked up and got quite a fun watch.
The side characters were very entertaining and fun. Austin sold his role, even though I'm not a fan of the backstory.
All in all a fun sunday movie.
