The first time I heard about the 1972 Uruguayan flight crash/survival tale was in 2022, when I watched an episode of "Lost in Adaption" on YouTube, that compared the non-fiction book <i>Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivor</i>s and the movie adaption<i> Alive (1993). </i> Safe to say I was obsessed with it for months, reading about it constantly. But I never ended up watching<i> Alive (1993)</i>. I think mostly because of the many mistakes the movie made, that felt disingenuous to the real factual story it is based on. Almost offensive. Especially when the mistakes were changed made to make the movie more appealing and entertaining to audiences. I think part of me giving this movie a chance, besides wanting to catch up on Oscar nominated movies, is because the cast and the author of the non-fiction book it's based on (Pablo Viersi) are both Uruguayan. The book and movie previously mentioned are both American. A gut feeling made me think this one might be less sensationalized and more true to fact. I can't honestly comare the movies, but from what I've heard of <i>Alive</i>, this one is miles better. And I really enjoyed it. The plane crash sequence was horrifying, the visuals were usually stunning (with the exception of two after-death shots I disliked). I never cried, but that's more on me for knowing where it was going to go. I think this movie would've been such a great way to be introduced to the story. The actor who played Roberto was so attractive. Obviously doesn't have anything to do with my rating, but he certainly would give Cillian Murphy some competition if the Oscars had a most attractive actor category. Anyways, watch it, it's good!

Incredible story. From my memory, 'Alive' wasn't as brutal as this one. Looks beautiful and the music is perfect. The theme when they're being rescued reminded me a lot of the soundtrack of 'Lost' and I knew it had to be my boy Michael Giacchino. I did feel the length, maybe it could have been a bit shorter but at the same time it does a great job capturing how endless their situation feels.

Astonoshing, amazing and perfectly directed true story that remains in your heart, and you can almost feel and see the pain that all those people went through Cast was almost prefect (9/10), but the direction and narative pace of this movie made it almost 10/10 Totally deserved it's Oscar award
