very interesting doc about chaplin that doesn't shy away from his most horrible traits and actions, but also doesn't pain him as a villain in any way. just a really complex guy. the red scare "communist chaplin" stuff was new to me. i really appreciated his children, ex-wife and old neighbour being in this, even if just tape-recorded, because hearing it first hand is entirely different than some historian sitting in a chair reciting it. not necessarily a "must watch", but if you (like me) want to dig deeper into his life, it's good.
they do show huge sections of many of his movies here, and discuss the plots, so consider this a spoiler warning if you plan to see those on their own
