<i>"COOOOOOOOSTAAAAAAAA!!! GIVE ME BACK MY FUCKING GNOME!!!"</i>
wow! what a film this is. as a whole, it's a disjointed mess with one singular plot point and absolutely zero character development. but slightly beneath the surface, and under the guise of satire, this shit is legitimately genius.
if you know me, you know that <i>superbad</i>'s my favorite movie. i've been saying it for ages. i watch it at least once every 2 or 3 months. so it's really no surprise that i would enjoy a movie that takes a similar route as <i>superbad</i> does.
even though the whole movie's based on just this one party, the build-up is pretty good, the sideplots during the party are phenomenal, and the fallout.. somehow ties everything back together? i was shocked they reeled it back in at the end lol
there are some jokes all throughout that land but are in incredibly poor taste (a la <i>superbad</i>), and i think that adds charm to it. am i saying it's a good thing a white kid said the n-word in a movie? not at all. but does it mark this as a 2012 period piece? absolutely.
also THE SOUNDTRACK?? HELLOOOOOO?? lcd soundsystem, kid cudi, old eminem, and the yeah yeah yeahs (just to list a few) add so much to the already gloriously early-2010s atmosphere.
this is probably the greatest piece of cinema todd phillips has lent his hand to besides maaaaybe <i>war dogs </i>(and yes, i watched both jokers). god bless our troops.
and just remember, wear something tight!

Me watching this in theaters: Damn I wish I was there!
Me 10 years later watching this at home: I can't imagine the legal fees they will have to pay. I think it's insane that this is based on an event that actually happened.
