Much more disappointing after having played the Tomb Raider game it was based on. Still a fun movie though.

I was expecting a very bad movie because well, apparently Alicia Vikander not having big boobs is usually the main argument I can read anywhere against this reboot. The truth is the movie is not half bad, even if sometimes, I felt like I watched Indiana Jones rather than Tomb Raider. Unlike the previous two movies lead by Angelina Jolie, the heroine isn't already a super badass multimillionaire, but she rather refuse it and become the Lara Croft we all know from the video games during the movie, to fully embrace her destiny by the end. I like that the artifact was not magic or mystical, but rather more scientifically possible (even if it remain to be a totally improbable disease). I did not like, as in many other of those treasure hunter movies (Indiana Jones, Benjamin Gates, Tomb Raider, but also The Goonies) that ancient civilizations (or pirates, or whatever), build traps that do not reset! I mean those people spend decades to build a fool proof sanctuary to keep or protect artifacts, but each trap, once triggered is literally useless? That's probably the part that annoys me the most in this movie. Other than that, I think the acting was quite good, I did not know Alicia Vikander before she got the role, and I think I will follow her career. She brings a new breath and a different, less big breasts oriented, approach to female action heroes. The story was a big predictable, but if that usually happens in action packed movies. I hope they will bring us a sequel worthy of this reboot.
