If I'm not mistaken this is Boots Riley's directorial debut and to be fair he did not disappoint me. Sure, the story gets out of hand in many sequences and the whole perspective of the plot was a bit over the top. We all do know the truth about corporate systems in USA and their capitalistic murder machines but using those facts as literal storyline developing points without a metaphor to clinge to is risky (albeit worth trying). I think Riley didn't manage to do what he was inclined to do but the effort itself deserves an applause.
