In a world where he survived the events of Spartacus, Ashur clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him. Allying with a fierce gladiatrix, Ashur ignites a new kind of spectacle that offends the elite.

Unconvincing attempt at capturing the magic that was Spartacus, and that makes me sad.
There may well have been a "woke" agenda by the writers, but there wasn't racism in ancient Rome as we know it, so I don't take issue with the role being black, or even female. While it would be very unrealistic for a female to best seasoned male gladiators, I'd be along for the ride if it was even the least bit convincing. Watching her movements and fights don't come close to passing the eye test. There are tons of excellent shows out there that portray strong capable women kicking ass with great skill and choreography. (Here's looking at you Michelle Yeoh) This show was let down in the casting. This role needed to be given to an actual action star (or budding), instead of a next top model. With the right person in the role, this would have felt a lot different and might have actually landed.
The other big issue is the total lack of star power. Spartacus was littered with incredibly talented and charismatic characters, but other than Tarabay and McTavish, it feels very....... budget friendly. Such a shame since they had a potential gold mine sitting in their laps with a rabid audience ready and waiting to go back to the Spartacus universe. I can't tell if casting is to blame, or if they actually did a good job with the budget they were able to work with, but most of the characters fall short of the mark.
just rewatched the original series after watching the first 2 episodes of this, and as I joke with my Wife, my initial thought to Her was if this version of Capua will be as cold as the previous, where EVERY nipple EVER, is erect on a hard summers day.. It baffle's the mind, I wonder how many ice cubes they used for these shows 😂
