I have seen this movie several times before. But the most recent time I watched it was the first time I noticed how visually beautiful it is. There are many "composed" scenes that have wonderful balance and space. I found myself wanting to pause the movie just to take in some of the different shots. This is one of those movies where the scenery is like an unspoken character and does just as much to affect your experience as the story and actors do. I do feel the movie is a little slow to lift off, but once Maria arrives at the von Trapp household, it's non-stop fun from there.
So many songs I knew but <i>didn't</i> know were from this movie.
What if I said Mary Poppins had <b>NOTHING</b> on the Sound of Music? This was SO fun. The setting was so gorgeous - the mountain backdrops are LUSH. This is one of those movies that remind you that maybe life isn't so bad. But then reality comes crashing down, as we deal with fucking <i>Nazis. </i>Wonderful movie. Important movie.
