A wholesome and heartwarming film about family and life among other things. Captures the beauty of life, how even the mundane can be wonderful, thanks to the vibrant cinematography and performances.
Watched it a couple weeks ago so i can't really write a detailed review about it.
<i>Shoplifters</i> is a Japanese movie that can easily be turned into an Anime due to the fact that it's filled with <i>Ma</i> scenes. <i>Ma</i> is a term associated with sequences that can deeply touch the audience's soul for the sole reason of their soft and lowkey depiction of unimportant moments in life. Long hair dancing in the wind, a sunny afternoon in a quiet village where you can only hear birds chirping, a sweaty shirt getting soaked under seasonal rainfall, etc.
In <i>Shoplifters</i> family coins a new meaning, one that isn't glamorized or denigrated. The defenition is real, humanistic and most of the times deeply affecting, just like the movie itself.
The story is so accessible to everyone that it truly feels like you're having a deja-vu about a life you've never lived. I will never forget the memory of watching this for the first time.

My third Kore-eda film. 'Nobody Knows' stands as my favorite, but I have fallen in love with his documentarian style of filmmaking. I can't wait to watch more from him.
