Fascinating movie. One complaint: it makes no sense for the mother to make them go on this journey and discover the horrible truth. It would have made more sense if she didn't know herself and just left the letters for them to find the brother _and_ the father

the true meaning of human morals, dignity, endearment, brutality, hatred and remission get lost in a horrendous catastrophe like war. it turns love into violence. human relationships enter conflicts that they would never face in a normal situation and trying to take in reality is something one cannot simply do.
Villeneuve's Incendies is a story of forgivness and inability to make choices for your own destiny.
visually speaking, the movie is gripping. even though it's somewhat an overlong film, it gravitates you towards the fragmented narrative from the first sequence. the plot twist is not over-sentimentalized yet it affects you deeply.
if you're a middle eastern this story will definitely resonate with you.

Incendies c’est une œuvre qui m’a profondément touché. J’ai vraiment adoré cette adaptation cinématographique, mais mon problème c’est que je le relis au livre, j’ai pas pu m’empêcher de comparer les deux. Donc, j’avais des attentes très élevées. Déjà, certaines scènes iconiques du film (que j’avais déjà vues sur les réseaux) comme l’incendie du bus, la mort du président ou encore « un + un = deux ». Pourtant, j’ai été un peu déçue par l’absence de certains détails très symboliques du livre, comme par exemple le seau d’eau jeté sur son corps lors de l’enterrement, qui pour moi avait une portée très forte. Malgré cela, le film reste une œuvre poignante, d’une grande beauté et d’une profondeur rare, qui réussit à transmettre avec force la tragédie humaine.
